Renault’s all-electric Megane E-Tech revealed at IAA Mobility Show

The Megane E-Tech is built on the same platform as the Nissan Arya

Renault has taken the wraps off its first electric crossover called the Megane E-Tech. The Megane moniker is not new at all, which has been used since 1995, but it is the very first time it is being used for a crossover, that too electric.

Design

The Megane E-Tech is built on the CMF-EV platform, the same as the Nissan Arya. The car is 4.21m long and has a rather long wheelbase of 2.7m. The car rides on massive 20” wheels, while the actual production version is likely to get 17”/18” wheels. It gets flush door handles, and LED headlights and taillights. The Megane E-Tech will be the first model to use the new Renault logo.

Interiors

The interiors have been designed from scratch for the new EV, with a unique inverted L-shaped display which Renault calls the ‘OpenR’ display. The driver gets a 12.3” cluster, while the central display measures 12”, both being high-resolution. The Megane E-Tech uses recyclable materials for the fabric upholstery inside.

Powertrain

The heart of the Megane E-Tech is a 40/60kW battery coupled with an electric motor with an output of 130hp and 250Nm in lower variants, and 215hp and 300Nm in the higher variants. The car is capable of touching the 100kmph mark in 7.4 seconds. As for the electric range, the car will be able to clock 300km and 470km with the 40kW and 60kW batteries respectively.
