NASCAR's first Grand National event, 72 years ago

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) held its first Grand National event, on 19 June 1949 at the Charlotte Fairgrounds. It started with Bill France’s vision to run a 100-mile national champion race. Local news editor argued that a national organisation to sanction a national event will be required, which gave birth to the idea of NASCAR to Bill France, which he founded on 21 February, 1948. At present, Jim France, son of Bill France is the CEO of NASCAR since 2018.
