Explained: How airbags work

An airbag is a safety system installed in vehicles, which inflates and deflates extremely quickly during a collision. The purpose behind an airbag is to reduce injuries by avoiding contact with hard surfaces present in the vehicle. During a collision, crash sensors installed in vehicles detect and provide important information like collision type, amount of impact, and angle to the airbag Electronic Controller Unit (ECU), and if the criteria of deployment of airbags is met, the ECU triggers firing circuits in the vehicle to deploy the airbag. Modern cars come with as many as 10 airbags.
