What exactly does a turbocharger do?
A turbocharger is basically a component which provides more air to the combustion of fuel in the engine. This results in better performance with high power and torque figures. Also comparing them to the same displacement naturally aspirated engines, the power figures are more and they provide better driving experience. One thing not in the favor of turbocharged engines is the efficiency. There is a marginal drop in efficiency with all that extra power.
