MG Astor to be revealed on September 15

MG Astor will be competing with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq

MG Motors recently revealed that its upcoming mid-size SUV, the Astor will be the first Indian car to get an in-car AI assistant. Additionally, the Astor will be the first car in its segment to come with Level 2 autonomous driving technology with Advanced driver Assistance System or ADAS. 

MG Motors will reveal the Astor for the Indian markets on September 15. The MG Astor will be positioned below the Hector in MG’s SUV range, making it the least expensive MG model on sale. Once launched in India, the MG Astor will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. 

MG Astor design

The Astor is essentially a rebadged version of the MG ZS facelift that is available in other countries. For India, MG has redone the front grille, front bumper and rear bumper. The Astor will come equipped with LED headlamps with automatic high beam assist, LED taillamps, and 17’ diamond cut alloy wheels. 

MG Astor Powertrain

MG will launch the Astor in India with a choice of two petrol engines. The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine is expected to generate 120hp and 150Nm of torque. A more powerful 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine will be available with higher variants, making 163hp and 230Nm of torque. 

MG Astor features

As mentioned earlier, MG Astor will be the first car in its segment to get an in-car AI assistant and Level 2 autonomous driving technology. The AI assistant is capable of responding to voice commands, displaying emojis, and answering questions from the web. The Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS includes features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and auto emergency braking to name a few. Additionally, the Astor will come with a 10.1” display with internet connectivity by Jio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 7’ instrument cluster.
